Our principles

These principles were co-designed with stakeholders to ensure community mental health services meet the needs of the people and communities we support. They underpin all that we do in the Access Wellbeing transformation programme.

Person-centred support

A round icon with three people in a circle

  • We listen to you and take your experiences seriously
  • Support is built around you – we work alongside you to find a way forward that is right for you
  • Everyone is treated with respect and dignity

Easy access to help

A round icon with an open door in the middle

  • There is no wrong door – we will help you to find the right support wherever you ask for help
  • Support is available when you need it, without long waits
  • It is easier to access support at an earlier stage, to help prevent crisis
  • Everyone is treated fairly, including people who are often excluded or face barriers to accessing support

Everyone’s voice matters

A round icon with two speech bubbles in it

  • Everyone has a voice, including people who use services, their families, and colleagues working in different services
  • We make decisions with you, not for you
  • Safety plans are created together, openly and honestly
  • We check how well support is working, so we can keep improving

Connected services

A round icon with three dots joined together in a circle inside it

  • Different teams work together so your care feels joined up
  • You won’t be asked to repeat your story again and again
  • We provide flexible, responsive services, and support that can change or adapt as your needs change

Support to build the life you want to live

  • We support you to feel connected, valued and part of your community
  • Support is available for the real-life worries and concerns that can affect our wellbeing, as well as more serious mental health difficulties
  • We work with you and others to build networks of support around you
